Reaching
Bristlecone Pines are the oldest single living organisms known, living to longer than 5000 years. They grow in isolated groves, withstanding cold temperatures, dry soil and high winds.
We originally drove out to the Patriarch Grove, part of the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, and it started to snow as we arrived. The grove developed a blanket of snow and it showed no signs of letting up. The road out to the grove is unpaved, and not wanting to end up getting stuck, we drove back to the visitor center.
This particular tree has been photographed many times. As I walked around the tree, I chose this perspective because the tree looks like it’s reaching to the sky. The sky, filled with storm clouds, most likely the same storm clouds responsible for the snow we experienced earlier at Patriarch Grove.
